Building-in-a-Box

In Phase 2 of the Secret of Praetoria, the Building-in-a-Box (BiB) Starter Package will become useable.

Rule of thumb: you will only be able to apply a BiB towards the construction of a structure which is able to level up. This means primarily buildings, as worksites generally cannot level up.

So, for example, you would be able to use a BiB to construct a level 1 Sawmill but not a Logging Camp, because Logging Camps are worksites which do not have a concept of leveling. Note that some few special worksites, such as Ore Mines, will be able to level, and thus you will be able to use BiB on those. You will also be able to use a BiB on Castles & Keeps once those structures are expanded to support leveling in the future.

BiB Tokens

In Phase 1.5, Building-in-a-Box packages are attached to each particular land plot. However, this will be changing in Phase 2 to compensate for the fact that BiB cannot generally be used on worksites. When Phase 2 launches, all BiB packages will become detached from the land plots they were originally associated with. They will essentially turn into BiB tokens in the player's account, with one token being given for each land plot owned by the player which has a BiB package at the time of release. These tokens will be viewable on the Other Items inventory screen, along with all the other various kinds of game tokens.

However, these tokens will remain soulbound to each player's account. They cannot be transferred or sold to others.

Using BiB Tokens

Let's say you own 30 land plots that have Building-in-a-Box packages right now. When Phase 2 releases, those packages will become detached from their plots and you will receive 30 BiB tokens in your account. These tokens can be used to construct buildings on any plot you own, and can be kept in reserve for future use indefinitely (you can choose to construct a building without using a BiB token). You could, for example, decide not to use the tokens on some of your original plots, buy 10 new plots, and then use them on the new plots instead.

When you use a BiB token to construct a building, the token will be subtracted from your account and you will not have to pay any of the usual construction costs for the building (including food for the workers). In addition, construction will be completed instantly, as if you were using time crystals.

BiB can be used to construct up to level 2

Since most worksites cannot level, and thus cannot have BiB applied, if you initially bought the Building-in-a-Box package for all your plots and have a lot of worksites, you may end up with extra BiB sitting around unused. Due to this fact, you will be able to apply a BiB towards the construction of up to a level 2 structure. BiB applicability is capped at level 2 as we don't want anybody to find it too easy to reach higher building levels too quickly. Note that to upgrade beyond level 1, multiple BiB tokens must be used, according to the below chart:

Structure Level
Number of BiB that must be used to upgrade to this level from the previous level
Cumulative number of BiB to reach this level

1

1

1

2

5

6

So you could spend 1 BiB to instantly construct a level 1 building. You could then spend an additional 5 BiB to upgrade to level 2. And that's the highest level you can reach by using BiB.

If you have a lot of BiB tokens, you will have to decide if you want to spend them on a lot of level 1 buildings, or reach level 2 for a smaller number of buildings. Going back to our earlier example of having 30 BiB tokens, you could choose to use them on 30 level 1 buildings, or 5 level 2 buildings, or whatever other combination you wish.

Note that a decision to use BiB on construction is an all-or-nothing decision. You either use the full number of required BiB tokens or none at all. You can't choose to pay partial construction costs and use BiB tokens at the same time.

Also, the numbers above are subject to change depending on what the final building upgrade costs end up being. Right now exact numbers for construction costs are TBD, and will likely remain so until shortly before Phase 2 is released.
